Computer Vision and Virtual Reality Methods for the 3-D Reconstruction of Archaeological Findings, with Applications in the Reconstruction of Wall-Paintings and Buildings of the Pre-Historic Settlement in Akrotiri, Thera, Greece

The goals of the project are:

• Digital Restoration of Missing Parts in the Pre-historic Wall Paintings of Thera
• 3-D Reconstruction of Buildings with Computer Vision and Computer Graphics Techniques
• Archaeological Study and Interpretation of the Wall-Paintings in Sector-B of the Pre-Historic Settlement in Akrotiri, Thera
• Comparative Study of the Urban Network of the Prehistoric Town of Akrotiri, Thera, with the aid of Modern Technologies

The project is sponsored by the General Secretariat of Research and Technology in Greece under grant PENED-2003-ED865, co-financed by E.U.-European Social Fund (80%) and the Greek Ministry of Development-GSRT (20%).

The results of the project have been presented in a workshop which was held in Athens on September 25, 2009.
