Stamatis Lefkimmiatis was born in Athens, Greece. He received the Diploma degree in Computer Engineering & Informatics (with highest honors) from University of Patras in July 2004. His Diploma Thesis, supervised by the Associate Prof. Kostantinos Mpermperidis (University of Patras), focused on equalization for DMT-based (Discrete Multitone) Systems.

As of October 2004, he is a Ph.D. candidate in CVSP group, school of ECE, NTUA, working in the general areas of Image Analysis and Signal Processing. His research is currently focused on the GSRT 'PENED-2003' project for astronomical data analysis and image processing. He has worked in the HIWIRE EU IST project on microphone array signal processing for speech enhancement and on feature extraction techniques for Automatic Speech Recognition. His research interests include image and speech analysis, nonlinear signal processing and statistical multiscale methods with main applications on astronomical and biomedical image processing.
